Electrical Engineering · UC Santa Barbara

Hi, I'm Jamie. I build and study circuits, from the cleanroom to the chip.

I'm an EE student focused on digital VLSI and signal processing. I work hands-on with fabrication equipment in UCSB's CNSI cleanroom, design digital systems in Verilog on FPGAs, and help run a machine-learning research lab.

Engineering across the stack

I'm a third-year Electrical Engineering student at UCSB with a minor in Music. I like working at every level of hardware. Most of my time goes to the CNSI Quantum Structures cleanroom, where I keep deposition, vacuum, and gas-delivery systems running, and the Geometric Intelligence Lab, where I'm lab manager. I also help with undergraduate research in circuits and music cognition.

I'm aiming for a career in digital VLSI and signal processing / wireless communications, and I'm open to any EE internship where I can learn from people who ship real hardware.

Digital design · FPGA

Traffic-Light Controller

A synchronous traffic-light controller in Verilog, implemented on an FPGA. I designed it as a finite-state machine, compared Mealy and Moore versions, and wrote testbenches to check every state transition and timing condition in simulation before running it on the board.

Lighting design · DMX

Lights on Greenmoor

A light show I program and run using DMXIS software and DMX lighting fixtures. I build each look and sequence cue by cue, then time the lights to the music.

07 · Beyond the lab

A few more things about me

Why a Music minor?

Music and signal processing are closer than they look. Audio is where I first got curious about filters and frequency response, and my work in the Music Cognition Lab keeps me thinking about how people actually hear signals.

What do you do for fun?

Video editing is my most consistent hobby: tweaking velocity, effects, and audio until a clip feels right (see some of my edits). I also program and run the Lights on Greenmoor light show. I'm also a big Star Wars fan, and I like channeling that into the things I design and build.

What are you looking for next?

Summer 2027 internships in digital design, verification, signal processing, semiconductor process/equipment, or test engineering. I'm also open to part-time roles in the Santa Barbara / Goleta area during the school year.
